Program Leadership and Staff

The M.S. in Biotechnology Program operates independently within the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), but is affiliated with the Cell and Regenerative Biology Department (CRB). The M.S. in Biotechnology Program Office is located in the MGE Innovation Center at the heart of the University Research Park.

Bryan Husk (Assistant Director) and Michele Smith (Program Manager) oversee day-to-day operation of the program from the M.S. in Biotechnology Program Office.

Natalie Betz (Associate Director and Faculty Associate) leads the management and delivery of the program’s curriculum. She divides her time between the M.S. in Biotechnology Program and the BTC Institute located on the Promega Corporation campus.

Rick Moss, Senior Associate Dean for Basic Research, Biotechnology and Graduate Studies, is the founding Executive Director of the M.S in Biotechnology Program.

Kurt Zimmerman, founding Director of the M.S. in Biotechnology, works day-to-day in the Dean’s Office for the School of Medicine and Public Health as Director of the Office of Industry Engagement to lead new strategic initiatives, such as The Isthmus Project, a collaboration within UW Health to foster medical innovation.
